I’m not sold that this was a good move by Britney or her handlers. There’s a ton of hype surrounding Spears residency at Planet Hollywood and if you live here you have seen the billboards for the last 3 months. On Christmas day there was a friends and family show at the newly renovated Axis Theatre… the same theatre that houses the Miss USA Pageant. I was told that all of the remaining December dates were sold out, that means that 28,000 tickets have been sold. I hope that’s true. To fill a 7000 seat theatre every night is going to be hard, especially since residencies are usually held for older more mature acts. Elton John, Garth Brooks, Rod Stewart, Celine Dion… to name a few.
Many of the people backing this show are hoping that acts like hers will turn profits from the younger club going visitors… but I’m not convinced. Many of the clubs that pump out electronic music are built for partying, sexy dress and intoxication. I’m not sure younger visitors want to sit in a 90 minute show of 24 of Brittany Spears Greatest hits, since her brand new album is being slammed by anyone with a keyboard.
The Boston Globe declared, ‘Nowhere does Britney Jean sound like Britney Spears.’ People Magazine’s Chuck Arnold gave it two and a half stars, saying it doesn’t build ‘creative momentum’ like her last album, 2011’s Femme Fatale. At 32 years of age, Brittany’s Manager/Father is keeping her in a bubble to avoid the negative press. Let me tell you, living in Las Vegas is probably the worst place for any Celebrity that can’t handle negative shit. There are so many great entertainers that come here and if you aren’t pulling your weight… the local press and the National press will have a field day.
I don’t want to be a Kill Joy, so I welcome her with open arms and hope she kicks the shit out of The Strip and uses this as a second chance the same way Shania Twain has.
